Bruce Lee? Thatâs right; even the great Bruce Lee knew the possibilities and the secrets of isometric training. As an example, he used isometric training and was capable of nailing a steel chain to the floor. To this, he attached a bar, and then he would try to 'curl' the bar.
Supplementary exercises he used frequently, involved the holding of himself in a gymnastic 'V-sit' position. He would then hang from a bar where he would raise his legs and hold.
Lee understood and believed in the importance of the âneural driveâ we mentioned earlier. He trained this by using static contractions â the tensing of his muscles.
Lee always made sure he tensed his entire body throughout his exercises. This, he said, was to plug energy leaks and was how he managed to perform the famous âone finger push up.â He used the contractions at each end of the muscle. This increased mind-muscle connections while increasing his time under tension.
Lee's training involved so much isometric training. He used the methodology to build and improve his physique, as well as his incredible strength and power. Furthermore, as a reminder of how strong Bruce Lee was â he was the guy who was able to hold an 88-pound (40 kg) barbell at arm's length. He could then hold this position for a number of seconds, seemingly effortlessly. What an absolute legend.
